At Childsplay Nursery, we understand just how important the early years are in shaping a child’s sense of self, belonging, and confidence. That’s why we’ve created a small, warm, and caring environment where every child is treated with kindness, respect, and as the unique individual they are.
Located in the heart of Morningside, Edinburgh, right beside St. Peter’s Primary School, Canaan Lane Primary School, and the South Morningside Primary School annexe, we’ve proudly supported local families since 1997. Our small size is one of our greatest strengths — it allows us to give each child the time, attention, and genuine care they need to grow and thrive.
At the heart of our approach is a deep respect for children’s rights, as outlined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). We are committed to creating a setting where every child’s voice is heard, their choices are valued, and their well-being is our top priority. We believe children have the right to be safe, to play, to be listened to, and to learn in ways that are meaningful to them — and this ethos is reflected in everything we do.
Our experienced and long-standing team provides consistency and comfort, creating strong bonds not only with the children but with their families too. Because we know each child so well, we can respond sensitively to their individual needs, routines, and personalities — helping them feel secure, confident, and ready to explore.
Our nursery is made up of three inviting rooms:
Each room has direct access to its own outdoor garden space, allowing children to freely enjoy the outdoors, connect with nature, and benefit from fresh air and movement every day. Outdoor play is a central part of life at Childsplay — we see it not just as recreation, but as a vital space for learning, exploration, and joy.

As a City of Edinburgh Council partner provider, we offer 1140 funded hours of early learning and childcare, delivered over 50 weeks of the year — the equivalent of 22.8 hours per week of consistent, high-quality care in a familiar, nurturing setting.

We’re proud to be a Green Flag Eco School, actively involving children in sustainable, environmentally conscious practices and encouragin them to care for and respect the world around them.
